Luke Renzland entered his sophomore season in Atlanta ready to compete inside the top 10 of a deep 250 East Coast field. After qualifying practice, the Rock River Yamaha rider proved he had the speed to compete in the top 10 with
an impressive 9th fastest time among the 250 riders.
Renzland got off to a 10th place start in his heat race and knew he had to make a few moves to get straight through to the main. He would actually get pushed back into 11th on the second lap getting passed by Tyler Bereman. The following lap Renzland got Bereman back and moved back to 10th. With laps running out in the heat Renzland picked up the pace and battled with hard with Audette and Rodriquez before climbing to 8th place and a transfer spot straight to the main. It was a hard fought heat race for Renzland and he looked ready to use that same aggression in the main.
A bad start would plague Renzland in the main event and he would come around lap one in 19th place. Not ready to give up and call it a night, Renzland put the hammer down and started picking off riders in front of him. He was really starting to click and he clawed all the way up to 11th. He was riding with some heart but that valiant effort would come to an abrupt halt, as he would go down while charging knocking him out of the race. He ended up 21st. Despite the tough end result, Renzland showed some true grit and will look to duplicate that effort next weekend in Daytona but with a better result.
