Tenth on the starting grid for the second heat of the evening, Albertson was ready to pounce along with everyone else in the field. All momentum was ceased however, as a gate malfunction caused many to spring into the metal bracket, and a red flag ensued. The
second time around, Jimmy shot out of the pad and sprinted towards the left-hander.
Looking like a giant lemondrop from the skycam, Albertson was near the lead but pushed wide into the initial rhythm sec- tion. Zapped in an instant after turn two, Albertson found himself trying to navigate efficiently through the rush-hour chaos that was upon him. Working up to as high as fourth, the presence of factory contracts were felt, as Justin Hill leapfrogged him over the dragon’s back, and RJ Hampshire was nipping at his heels. Handlebar to handlebar down the first rhythm lane, Jimmy clipped the final single and his feet were forced to spring to seat height. With no rear brake control, Albertson found himself diving into the Tuff Blocks and over the berm. His heat would end there, pushing him into the LCQ.
One goal for the LCQ: survive with a top four, and advance to the main event. Jimmy seemed to understand the memo, breaking away with a third place to start. Conquering the lead as they sprung over the triple, Albertson lead the pack through the first lap. Succumbing to Arnaud Tonus through the sand, he still had a secure ride in second as the laps ticked away. He would remain runner-up and would advance to the main event.
