Playtime’s over, time for the last ditch effort; and Wey’s start was true testa- ment to that. His Kawasaki gripped the Detroit soil and zipped him to the lead, only to be shortly overtaken by Cade Clason. He pressured the youngster into a mistake,
capturing first place and inheriting a victory for the Michigan wolverine.
Yet again forced to sit on the outside of the line for the main event, Wey mustered an opening lap posi- tion of 17th. He would inch to 15th at the halfway point, now stalking the infamous Vince Friese in every corner. Having trouble with the controversial Missouri native, he would momentarily yield to Honda’s Cole Seely, 16th on lap 13. Josh Grant would be the next in line to pass, and push Wey to 17th with five to go. Credit given where need be, his effort never failed, and would result in a 15th place finish.
