On Saturday night, the entire supercross production ensemble of fans, industry mem-
bers and media got to see one of the most jaw-dropping main events so far this sea-
son. With the East series still up for grabs, all riders contending for the championship continue to be “all systems go” with Detroit being just another step to a potential destiny. Smack dab in the middle of this championship hunt lies Jeremy Martin, who came into Detroit with the envied red background on his number plate. By the end of the night, though, it wouldn’t stay that way.
As mentioned before, Martin has had an extremely distinct struggle in chasing his first supercross championship, with Michigan capital’s Ford Field being the residence of 2016’s rough patch. It didn’t seem to be any sort of off night for Martin starting out, securing a 3rd in heat race #2. He had started the race in third, but stabbing his foot in turn 3, Jeremy fell back to 7th before nearly making a pass in the whoops every lap before the heat’s conclusion.
Still designated with the red plate, there wasn’t an eye in the building that wasn’t keeping the #6 in-sight as mechan- ics prepped the gates before the night’s main. A few moments later, it was there, with the flame-throwers raging, crowd roaring and bikes revving to the max, that it all happened so quickly. Picking an inside gate, Martin was one of the first pinched off heading into the first turn. With only centimeters to spare, Martin and Davalos made contact just ahead of Tyler Bowers, forcing all three to be involved.
