Bowers and Martin both pulled the short straws, though, as the two ended up on the ground with Bow-
ers and his bike on top of Martin’s Yamaha. The two quickly jumped up, motivated to turn the bad luck
around. Coming from dead last, both riders made fairly quick work of the back of the pack. By lap 5, Martin had made his way to 16th, having a bit of a tougher time than the #53 of Bowers. Before crossing the line to start lap 6, Jeremy washed out the front wheel, hitting the dirt again. A couple of quick kicks to the forks to fix the steering and the younger Martin brother, with frus- trations lingering, reentered the race in 18th. With only half of the race left, Jeremy ran out of time making it back to 13th before all was said and done, losing the rights to the points lead to Detroit main event winner, Malcolm Stewart.
With the test of Detroit behind him, Martin will now need to use some of that championship will power to close the 7-point gap that was created with four more rounds to go. Yet, if this 13th takes place of Martin failing to make a main event, as in previous
years, this weekend’s result should feel like a victory and the press for greatness continued.
