Ken Roczen entered Southwick with the sole intention to build on his thirty second second moto win last weekend at Red Bud. He has been dominating all season long and looked to continue doing so after finishing a nice third
place in the qualifying sessions.
The first moto began with a so-so start for the German rider emerging from the first turn in sev- enth place. But just like he has all season long, he immediately went to work moving up to fourth after one and passing Musquin and Pourcel on lap two. He was then in second place and set his sights on leader Justin Bogle. He wasn’t catching him as fast as we would have antici- pated and that allowed Tomac to get on his rear wheel. The two would swap position momen- tarily prompting Roczen to make on last effort at Bogle and he finally made the move twelve min- utes into the moto. He would only hold onto the lead for a few laps because Tomac was simply going much faster and he would make the move at the halfway point sending Roczen to second.
