straight into the main event, checking out on the competition to eventually win by more than twenty seconds. Tomac was the only rider to clock a lap time in the forty-six second range whereas all of his other competitors were recording lap times in the forty-sevens or worse, separating himself on the track and on paper. Although he was clearly the fastest in the premier class, Anderson minimized the damage and still gained points ahead of Musquin as he beat the Frenchman to second position, but it was fairly processional race between the top three altogether. The real battle took place in the 250SX East class as Austin Forkner and Zach Osborne
at the Kawasaki rider’s home race
in Missouri. Osborne pulled the holeshot and the two of them quickly found each other on the track, running in one another’s wheel tracks for the opening portion of the race. Forkner made the move early and tried to pull away but Osborne was having none of it, holding pace with the youngster. Unfortunately, the Missourian made a mistake
and hit the ground before the battle really got underway and dropped back through the field, eventually remounting to fifth position. At that point, Osborne easily escaped with the victory and took with him an eight point lead in the championship heading to the first 250SX East/ West Shootout in Indianapolis.

One of the major changes to the 2018 Monster Energy Supercross format was the introduction of two 250SX East/West Shootouts. It’s an easy way to mix up both regional championships, allowing riders from both coasts to race one another with only so many points up for grabs, often throwing a wrench in one of the championship chases.
