KILPATRICK
mimicking his every move. The rear end would squeamish; he would continue to keep the 85 pegged. There was no denying his tenacity. Unfor- tunately, it would be yet again, just a tad bit short across the stripe, and the field looked to be set going in to moto number three. But as they say, it truly isn’t over, until the final flag, and the last round couldn’t have been applied to a truer statement. The mud was amounting, as the shower had mechanics toying with settings prior to the lining of the gate. Leblanc knew the variables coming into play, and was ready for whatever
was thrown at him. A mistake on the opening lap put the seemingly unstoppable Jett Reynolds back to 12th, but man was he coming. Vohland, also buried, in 18th, left Leblanc to be one of the few contender’s in the front of the field. He was 5th, and knew that with his main competition nowhere to be found, he must sprint while he had the chance. He did so, pushing a stout pace of a 2:28 laptime, weighting the outside footpeg, making sure he had optimal traction around the circuit. His maturity was applaud-worthy, as every lap was in the comfort zone, all the while a mechanical failure of Reynold’s would push him out of the race, and Vohland was having many mistakes of his own. And there it was, the check- ered flag just in front of him, as Leblanc would reach out to take it. Looking back, he saw that his counterparts weren’t in close proximation. He had done it! The impossible was accomplished, and he had claimed overall victory!
