KILPATRICK
Every year, the crew at MXSPORTS always seeks to make the program a bit better for all in attendance. Whether it be by trimming wasteful costs, inviting spe- cial guests, or in this case, adding classes to the event, the fans seem to enjoy the product in which they are given. This year, the WMX series was given the opportunity to compete on the Loretta Lynn’s course; and the women didn’t disappoint. Kylie Fasnacht, running her rather frighten-
ing number one plate, was a polarizing figure to all of her competitors. She was proving it in the beginning of the first moto, hunting the extremely quick Han- nah Hodges with feverish intent. Inside, outside, she was going the exact opposite way of her Kawasaki counterpart. Hodges looked extremely solid, and the fight was coming down to the bitter end. Kylie was scrubbing everything she could, and her stamina was excelling in this harsh set- ting; as she set her fastest lap, on lap sev- en, the same lap she made the pass. It was truly remarkable. Once the move had been made, she bee-lined to the finish, scurrying away with a moto win. If only she could replicate this performance, she would walk away as an overall victor. With the track deteriorating, it was time to push the pace, yet be methodical, as a mistake could be devastating. Kylie stormed to
an early gap, her usual partner in crime, Hodges, just behind. And just as her team had discussed, the track reached up and grabbed the number one. A dreadful mis- take had her now 18 seconds behind the leader in fifth. She could do this, if she just placed her head down, and charged. And man oh man, did she do just that. Launch- ing every single in sight, leaning on the rev limiter in the air; the bike was already at max RPM, every time she struck the racing surface. The sight of Hodges was no longer foggy, the view had become
of blu-ray quality. The moment was now, the last lap; she had to make the move. My goodness did she push the pace with authority, blitzing by Hodges with a jaw- dropping 2:07 mark, the fastest of anyone in the moto. Hodges would relinquish the lead, and Kylie would launch past the finish line with rage filled passion. She so deserved this win after that comeback, and would go 1-1 on the day.
