KILPATRICK
When you scroll through the pro- gram at your local Supercross, in let’s say, 5 years, Garrett March- banks is a name you will not just know, but be one that you hear on
a consistent basis, synonymous with winning. He’s dominating at the amateur level, and with arguably the deepest field at Loretta’s this year, the 250 B class was truly a place
to assert himself as the ultimate number one. The first moto provided quite the treat for fans, as March- banks was stuck in 15th, and forced to work his way around a pool of talent. No problem for Garrett, how- ever. As the number quickly dropped to 6th, 5th, 4th, and so on, reaching as high as second; it was only Seth Hammaker that stood in his way of victory. He would go on to reside here, knowing that he had much more left in the tank, for the days to come. As the gate fell for the second time, it was Levi Newby who took an early lead, only to get zapped up by Marchbanks on lap three. Moving urgently from fourth to first, Garrett would then set the fastest laptime on circuit number 5, pulling away from the likes of Newby, Brown, and Kobusch. His style was so smooth, always hitting the apex of the cor- ners with absurd momentum, and shooting out of the rut with optimum throttle. If he could just replicate this performance for a third time, then
he would take a number one plate home yet again. Marchbanks rock- eted off the line for this start, shifting through third and fourth with a solid swipe of the left boot. Pushing the pace early, he set his fastest lap on lap two, going below the bar of the 2:00 mark, with an applaud worthy 1:59. Each lap, he would pull little by little over KTM’s Derek Drake, yet another combatant looking to steal the thunder in this all-star division. Marchbanks would show no signs
of wavering however, as he would focus forward, all the way to the fin- ish line. It was here, that he glossy number one plate would reside, and then be placed within his grasp. He’d done it again.
