Austin Forkner started the day off great in Massachusetts. He turned the fasted time early in the first session and went into the races with the number one gate pick. When the first moto began, Austin got a great start and was
right behind one of his teammates on lap one. He was running 6th and pressuring hard for 5th. Forkner followed his teammate, Tonus for nearly half the moto until Tonus made a pass for 4th place. Austin began to go to work on 5th place Oldenburg. As Austin was trying to make the pass for 5th, points leader, Webb, was beginning to pressure the young rookie. Austin was able to make the pass Old- enburg and escape the wrath of Webb for now. Unfortunately, a hard charging Cooper Webb caught back up and made the pass on Forkner as the laps wound down. Austin would settle for 5th. In moto two, Forkner got a great jump and was running in 3rd place early on. Austin then made the pass on McElrath and was starting to gain on leader, Webb. Austin looked like he may be able to make a pass for the lead for a while but Cooper slowly pulled back away. Austin would settle in and ride a very impressive race all the way to the finish. He would take 2nd place (a career best) and that was good enough for a podium position overall at Southwick. Next week, Austin should be running near the front in the first moto if his bizarre streak continues.
