Eli Tomac went into the night with the confidence of being the fastest qualifier of the day. Getting a top ten start in his heat race Tomac clearly wanted that qualifying spot, looking really fast on the track. The second lap he moves into 7th right behind Bogle who he later passes moving him into 6th. The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider finished his heat race in 6th place spot just two shy of transferring. He gets a
good start in the semi right around 4th place. He makes a small bobble causing him to come very close to going down but manages to ride it out and keep moving forward. On the second lap he had already found himself in 2nd and passes Wey right away for the lead. Leading almost the entire semi he gets passed on the last lap and finishes off in second. Starts have been Tomac’s biggest problem all year long and it showed tonight. Tomac struggled out of the gate in the main event sitting all the way back in 16th on the first lap. About halfway into the race the Kawasaki rider has made some passes and has worked his way into 10th. On lap eight he passes Musquin, while Stewart has a problem moving him into 8th. With five laps to go he begins to battle with Peick working hard to get that next pass. As the race neared the end he wasn’t able to get anymore riders and finishes off this main event with a 7th place finish. Not his best finish, but definitely not his worst of the 2016 season.
