Two Texas teens are facing felony charges after their senior
prank caused multiple students to be hospitalized. Court documents state the students brought cans labeled “fart spray” to school, items that have been deemed prohibited
weapons, accord- ing to authorities.
Diego Flores and David Navarrete- Arce now face third-degree felony charges in the prank that resulted in a strong odor at Caney Creek High School in Conroe, outside of Houston, on May 3 and May 4. The stench was so bad that the
school was evac- uated twice in an attempt to find the source, while seven students were taken to the hospital for further care after com- plaining of headaches and nausea, accord- ing to an ABC 13 report.
The students were released from the hospital the same day, but
Conroe ISD is taking the matter seriously.
“We can affirm that even the ini- tial evidence out- lined in the charges indicates that this incident goes beyond the scope of a benign school prank,” reads a statement provided to ABC 13 from the Montgomery County District
Attorney’s office. The arrest war- rants for the stu- dents claimed the spray, which is reportedly avail- able for purchase online, was “capable of caus- ing adverse psy- chological and physiological effects on a human being.”
Conroe ISD police officers and administrators reviewed footage from school cam- eras on May 4, noticing that stu- dents walking around Navarrete-Arce reacted as if they smelled a strong odor, according
to Montgomery County court doc- uments.
“The video showed the stu- dents recoiling and covering their noses and mouths with their hands and other items,” the arrest affidavit states.
“The video showed Navarrete-Arce appear to drop and pick up an item and shows the item in his hand appeared to be a small spray can.”
Navarrete-Arce later admitted to police that he sprayed the mix- ture throughout the school, but didn’t name the student he later gave the can to. Flores reportedly had a different can that
was taken away by a teacher.
Flores, 18, and Navarrete-Arce, 17, could face up to 10 years in prison for spray- ing the pungent solution around the school grounds. Both teens were arrest- ed on May 12 and have since been released on a $3,000 bond.
