Collins Group opens new Oamaru MEGA
A LITTLE LATER than anticipated,
after 12+ months’ construction, an archaeological dig, a global pandemic and much anticipation in the local community, Collins Group’s Mitre 10 MEGA Oamaru opened its doors on 3 August.
With a 3,138m2 retail area on a 7,000m2 site, the new Dee Street MEGA is three times the size of the Severn Street Mitre 10 it replaces and over $18 million has been invested in construction, with 100+ contractors employed during the build.
e shift to the MEGA format, along with a substantial increase in oor space, product range and services, has created 25-30 new permanent jobs for the area bringing the Oamaru MEGA team to 68.
Starting out as Robertson’s Hardware before becoming part of Mitre 10 with the Collins Group in 1992, the business has moved twice to larger premises to meet the needs of the growing Oamaru population.
Collins Group Managing Director, Simon Lye, says: “ e larger footprint
