Now the best way to avoid the “What Question” is to pay attention. But sometimes you get distracted and miss an important point.
We teach our youngsters to look at who is speaking with them and say, “I am sorry, I missed some of what your were saying, would you please repeat it.”
This lets the speaker know that you are interested but that you need it to be repeated. But now you better pay attention. After it has been repeated, we teach youngsters to then say, “Thanks for telling it to me again.”
This lets the speaker know that you understood them and that you appreciate them repeating it.
Our first “Question Rule” is “Never just say - WHAT!”
