Page 8 - Too Birds
P. 8
Next, the Congress of Birds took up the group of birds you call penguins. “Since this group of rather small birds can not fly or run very fast, we have had a great deal of trouble figuring out where you can live.
We have decided that you shall live on the large block of ice at the bottom of the earth. There you can live free of predators and be able to find fish to eat.”
Now, this seemed like a good plan but remember how easy their life had been. An objection was raised by the Red Breasted Penguin leader. “But that land is too cold. We like a warmer climate and eating fish is too limited a diet. Therefore, we the Red Breasted Penguins choose to live in the warm jungles where there is much fruit and other good food.”
I had to agree with the penguins. That block of ice did sound mighty cold. But I am sure that you can understand the reasoning of the Congress. If you can’t fly or run very fast, you will be in trouble around fast, hungry predators.
Unfortunately, the Red Breasted Penguins did not want to think about that problem. They were only focused on it being too cold and the diet being too limited. As you know, that block of ice is still full of black and white penguins but the forest has no Red Breasted Penguins.
