“You mean you have done this elsewhere,” asked the King.
The Peddler replied, “Why yes. You don’t think that yours is the only kingdom where people see things in a peculiar way? In most kingdoms, people see what they want or expect to see, rather than what is real. In most kingdoms, people are very comfortable with this system, even if is not correct. Seldom have I found more than a few people who are willing to give up their wrong ideas and do the work necessary to see all of life as it is in reality, rather than as they want or expect it to be.”
A smile came over the King’s face as he said to the Peddler, “You get to sell these glasses over and over because of the nature of people and you are making a great deal of money in the process.” “Yes, Your Majesty, you are correct. Over the years I have sold them countless times. However, there is more to this story then just a peddler making money.”
“You see Sire, I only sell these glasses. I can’t make them. A very wise man, now gone, made all of the Magic Glasses I have in my wagon. I was calling on him one day when I was a peddler of pots and pans. He told me of the glasses and how he had worked all of his life to make all of them so that anyone who wanted to see life as it really is could do so.”
