Cosmos hopes that the reader will be like the King and some of the others and accept the “gift.” The “gift” is a willingness to use Good Thinking in evaluating situations and people. You will have the ability to, “get rid of your assumptions and prejudices and see life as it is in reality.” And just as in the story, this is difficult, sometimes confusing and frequently scary. Those are some of the reasons that so many in the Kingdom returned the glasses.
This is the same as with many of those reading the story. They will be very reluctant to give up old ways of thinking even if they know it is incorrect and is causing them difficulties. Be aware that all you can do is offer the gift... they will have to choose to accept it.
