Worksheet
When your children come to the ques ons on this worksheet, you may no ce that they have a li le di culty coming up with Good Thinking answers. They may need to be coached to think ra onally about the situa on and not think mean or vindic ve things (shoot the rabbit).
A good response is something like the Crow’s conversa on, “You don’t know
if the rabbit might not be be er o if the garden were changed. Why are you so responsible for the rabbit?” Compromise thinking, such as le ng a li le of the garden stay in collards, is a good indica on that they will have the ability to evaluate op ons and this type of thinking should be encouraged.
As in all of these examples, there may be mixed emo ons, some sadness but not too bad, maybe some anger for having to compromise. The main point to get across is that it is okay to have these somewhat nega ve emo ons if you are in control of them. You should be doing what you are doing because it is what is best for you and not because you are trying to be mean or trying to manipulate someone else.
If they understand that they should not allow themselves to be manipulated, they should be able to verbalize that she would change the garden. They should be able to verbalize that she is not being mean to the Rabbit. The rabbit may not be happy and even if the rabbit is very sad or even angry, it is because the manipula on failed and the girl should not feel bad.
1. What Good Thinking could the Young Girl have had when the Rabbit told her about how miserable he was going to be if she changed the garden? (Help them come up with ra onal ideas...like that of Cosmos)
2. What OK emo ons would go with this Good Thinking?
(Your audience should recognize that the Young Girl might be a li le sad or concerned. They may say she would feel okay. You want them to recognize that with Good Thinking, she would not feel guilty)
3. What could have been her Thumbs Up behavior?
(For this ques on, a compromise is ne...leave a li le for the rabbit...but she will change her garden)
