Caring
Community
SIS is at the center of a warm and genuinely diverse international community. We believe that each member of the community has a role and responsibility to empower our children. Since our inception in 1988, students, parents, and staff are at the core of our caring community. The strength of our caring community shined during our year of recovery.
Due to Covid related restrictions, our SIS parents and extended community members were not allowed on campus. This decision was challenging as we are a close community with many celebrations and traditions that we look forward to each year. Events and festivals like Family Movie Nights, Halloween, Annual Winter Bazaar, China Day, and new parent orientation were canceled or modified.
With the help of our Parent Support Association (PSA), SIS transformed old traditions and activities into new ones to continue the spirit of gathering and connecting for our children and community as a whole. The PSA organized Halloween for our primary students, the PSA Primary Talent Show, the much-loved popcorn Fridays, and staff breakfast and teacher apprectiation dinner. The PSA also sponsored and provided support to many
grade level and campus events. With a team of 15 plus members compared to the 40 plus in previous years, our PSA worked tirelessly and effortlessly to maintain and support efforts across the school. They are an invaluable part of our community and we are lucky to have such active and engaged parents.
As the year progressed and restrictions eased, we could hold gatherings of up to 300 people. We hosted TEDx Leap in Level 5, our students and faculty creativity shined in the SIS Film Festival, and outside guests were invited to the Grade 5 culminating event PYPx. Our Secondary Student Counsel organized a prom for Grades 9-12. We also said a heartfelt farewell to our seniors at graduation at an off-campus event area that also held our annual Primary Art Exhibition.
While the 2020-21 school year restricted our community gatherings, the SIS welcoming and caring community stayed supportive and engaged. Everyone worked as partners to ensure our students have a rich educational experience. We are proud of our accomplishments and could not have done any of this without the work of our entire SIS community.
