Six More Years
(WASC)
Due to border closures from the pandemic, the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) delayed the accreditation process for the 2019-2020 school year. After much anticipation and preparation, the WASC committee arrived in March of this year for our accreditation review. These collaborations with WASC help us with continuous school improvement that focuses on high-quality learning and well-being for our students. The accreditation assures our community that our purposes are appropriate and accomplished through a viable education program. It also validates student transcripts and facilitates credits to other English-speaking schools critical for college and university acceptances worldwide.
The WASC committee focused on student learning, curriculum, student personal and academic growth, school culture and environment, and ongoing school improvement. The committee reported that SIS has provided a challenging, coherent, and relevant curriculum that fulfills the school's purpose and aligns with the stated learner outcomes. Administrators and teachers effectively use various approaches to remain current in research- based professional knowledge and apply the knowledge to improve teaching and learning. SIS also has effective, adequate personalized support systems that include intervention and referral services to support all students in health, career and personal counseling, and academic assistance.
The visiting committee agreed with the school's identified areas outlined in the schoolwide action plan. SIS is the premier school of choice for families and students who want to have an international educational experience. We have created a future-focused curriculum that is inspiring and challenging, and we provide student support to ensure all students achieve the mission.
Throughout the report, they stated that we have a clear view of who we are, know our approach to learning, and place in the international education community. We accurately assessed our strengths and areas for growth through a self-study process despite a year-long interruption. They also recognized that SIS is a friendly, welcoming, and caring community of educators, staff, parents, and students dedicated to enriching the learning lives of students through the respect of student choice, voice, and agency.
We are incredibly proud of our community and its commitment to student learning and growth. The continuous collaborations with WASC will help us attain our goals for the next six years.
