Te Aitanga a Tumoana

POROA marena Whangatauatia [572] [MRIN: 335].
Rapunga Kupu Akoako: (korero taken from "the tribes of Muriwhenua") The defeat of Te Aupouri
by Te Rarawa at Honuhonu resulted in the death of thier Chief Te Kaka. To keep his body intact, his
daughter Whangatauatia threw herself over him protectively. The Chief of Te Rarawa, Poroa was
impressed by this and she was given to him in marriage in the peace negotiations that followed.
Whangatauatia was a warrior woman in her own right and carried her own greenstone mere or club,
accompanying the menfolk of her tribe into battle. Sadly it seems she left him later.
POROA marena ano Ngarimu Hongi Hika [876] [MRIN: 193].
