                          Wharo; the son of Kahi was noted as the person who was mentioned in Tukitahuas map in 1793
                          as the Chief who presided over the 4000 inhabitants of Te Tai Hauauru being the west coast
                          between Reef Point south and Herekino harbour. Te Huhu was also a signatory on 28 October 1835
                          to the Declaration of the Independence of Aotearoa which was signed by the United Tribes of
                          Aotearoa, a loose confederation of Maori tribes organised by British resident James Busby. This
                          document recognised Maori independence, however this declaration was abrogated five years later
                          by te Tiriti O Waitangi, which ceded the independence (recognised by King William IV of the
                          United Kingdom) of Maori to the British Crown.

                          Rapunga Kupu Akoako: Papahia Te Werohiko Tana; and his son Wiremu Tana are both signatories
                          to te Tiriti O Waitangi, the only father and son to do so. Papahia took the name Werohiko (Francis) in
                          respect of his friendship to Bishop Francis Pompallier whom he gifted the land for the first Haahi
                          Katorika in the north at Rangi Point.

                   Ngakahuwhero was Herepaenga.
                          Rapunga Kupu Akoako: (korero taken from "Enclyclopedia of NZ") Nga-kahu-whero: was
                          born at Waihou, in the late eighteenth century. Little is known of her childhood days.
                          With her inherited mana over the land and the people, Nga-kahu-whero had the authority to
                          establish land boundaries and to give land to people, as she did to Mariao and many others. She was
                          entitled to a share of the proceeds from sales of land made by others of the area, as when Kaumatua
                          sold land to Bishop J. B. F. Pompallier. In all these matters no one disputed her rights. She also
