Rapunga Kupu Akoako: (korero taken from "trading cultures a history of the far north"et al) Te
Kanawa, a Maniapoto leader gave a child to Poroa, when Poroa pursuaded Hongi Hika not to attack
during one of his Waikato raids. The boy was Te Haumutunga Reewe of Tainui Kingitanga. Poroa
already had an association with Potatau Te Wherowhero as a result of a hohourongo he facilitated
on Te Wherowhero's request. A relationship was maintained with the gifting of rangatira children
and through intermarriage between Tawhiao's own Whanau and rangatira Whanau of Te Rarawa.
Through these whanaungatanga relationships political understandings would have inevitably been
shared and discussed, including the notion of averting war in favour of a new era of development. It
is said that Rewe was 115yrs when he died in 1934.
TeHaumutunga marena Ngahuka Makinihi Keere [2283] [MRIN: 949], daughter of Keere [3007] and
Heni Hei Hekia Mihaka [2265]. Ngahuka was born in 1842, died in 1918 at age 76, and was buried in
Ahipara.
