I have used the phrase “stay cool”, but understand that if you are too cool you will
possibly frighten the police officer. However, you cannot act nervous.

It is recommended that you lock all valuables in a strongbox that is bolted or welded
inside the trunk.

If you are asked to step outside the car, be sure to close and lock the doors. Place the
keys inside your pocket and keep your hands visible.

If you have a permit to carry a firearm and are pulled over by a cop, let him/her know
that you have a firearm in the car. Do not say that you have a gun.

What I know about the police is embedded in my brain because I am a Black man.
During my travels throughout Mexico, I am not profiled, targeted and harrassed.
Daily, I see police officers in my neighborhood. Most are friendly, curious or studious.
Sometimes, I thank them for doing their job because they are keeping me from
killing the have-nots that prey on those whom chose to get their own.

In addition, I have no problems while driving and I drive as do the taxi drivers. Yet,
when I am with my family, I am more cautious.

I am aware of the relationship between Afrikans in America and police officers. It is
not good! Nonetheless, when I visit the US, I make eye contact with the cops. I have
been to prison. So, I am definitely not afraid of them.

I want them to know that I see them
because I do not believe that being
polite will prevent a cop from shooting
me. Every incident is different and we
all read and react differently.

I am a small warrior with an athletic
build. I assume the officers are going to
come with excessive force. They have
been conditioned to be afraid. I cannot
promise that I will allow racist gunmen
to have their way with me.

Unfortunately, not all Black men or
women are conditioned to be warriors.
