                                                                              Tactical Ventilation: Honing the
        Rapid Intervention Teams                                              Fundamentals

        Class Limit: 24                                                       always unexpected developments that conspire
                                                                              to slow things down.  So, for those tactics that are
                                                                              required early, most critical, or most frequently
                                                                              used – and especially those that are also equipment
                                                                              intensive, lightly staffed or otherwise complicated
                                                                              – special attention needs to be devoted to their
                                                                              refinement.  They need to be practiced and honed
                                                                              to the point they become almost automatic, so that
                                                                              attention can be focused on the many unpredictable
                                                                              factors that are likely to be encountered.  This class
                                                                              will focus on the most commonly used ventilation
                                                                              tactics, with an emphasis on safety, practicality,
                                                                              effectiveness, and quickness.  The classroom
                                                                              portion will include discussions of general theories
                                                                              of natural horizontal ventilation, vertical rooftop
                                                                              ventilation (including commercial roof tactics),
                                                                              forced air ventilation (emphasizing positive pressure
                                                                              ventilation), and the deliberate decision to isolate
                                                                              an area to limit or prevent air movement (so-called
                                                                              “anti-ventilation”).  The class will conclude with
                                                                              rotations through a series of practical hands-on
                                                                              applications with tools, tactics, and coordinated
                                                                              teamwork necessary to maximize ventilation success.
