Class Limit: 24 always unexpected developments that conspire
to slow things down. So, for those tactics that are
required early, most critical, or most frequently
used – and especially those that are also equipment
intensive, lightly staffed or otherwise complicated
– special attention needs to be devoted to their
refinement. They need to be practiced and honed
to the point they become almost automatic, so that
attention can be focused on the many unpredictable
factors that are likely to be encountered. This class
will focus on the most commonly used ventilation
tactics, with an emphasis on safety, practicality,
effectiveness, and quickness. The classroom
portion will include discussions of general theories
of natural horizontal ventilation, vertical rooftop
ventilation (including commercial roof tactics),
forced air ventilation (emphasizing positive pressure
ventilation), and the deliberate decision to isolate
an area to limit or prevent air movement (so-called
“anti-ventilation”). The class will conclude with
rotations through a series of practical hands-on
applications with tools, tactics, and coordinated
teamwork necessary to maximize ventilation success.
