                  COORDINATES OF A POINT

On the coordinate plane, each point is represented by an ordered
                  pair P(x,y) in which

x is called x-coordinate or abscissa or first component and
y is called y-coordinate or ordinate or second component.

In an ordered pair, the order is important. Every time x coordinate should be written before

                  y-coordinate.

The horizontal number line is called x-axis and the vertical number line is called y-axis.

                                                      3
                  Ex: Plot the points A (1, 2), B(-4, -3), C ( , -2),
                                                      2
D(0, 4),and E(-3, 0). Specify the quadrant in which each
                  point lies.
