BENEFITS
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
In order to be fair and consistent in determining eligibility for the benefits detailed in the following sections,
the school makes a distinction among employees. Since the terms "full-time" and "part-time" are difficult
to quantify and equate across all divisions, the school has chosen to base eligibility requirements on a "class
hour" basis.
Employees working at least 20 hours per week AND a minimum of 660 cumulative hours per
fiscal year will be considered to be eligible for most school-paid benefits. Eligibility for the school’s
TIAA 403(b) program are more complex and are discussed in the TIAA section of this booklet and the
Summary Plan Description distributed to eligible employees. Those working fewer hours than noted above
may only participate in the Tuition Remission (pro-rated by FTE) and Flexible Compensation Plans.
Note: Renbrook assigns a Full Time Equivalency Ratio, “FTE” to all positions in order to be able to quantify the
total employee base as a single number. While it is possible to determine an employee’s “FTE” based on the
number of hours worked, eligibility for benefits is based on the cumulative calendar year hours worked as
described above and not the “FTE”.
HEALTH AND RELATED BENEFITS
COBRA
The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985 (COBRA) gives employees and their families that
lose their health insurance benefit the right to choose to continue group health benefits provided by their
group health plan for a limited period of time under certain qualifying events. The School has contracted with
InfiniSource to administer COBRA compliance, including notification letters and billing of medical premiums.
EMPLOYEE AND VOLUNTEER INJURIES
• IF YOU HAVE A MEDICAL EMERGENCY, GO TO THE NEAREST HOSPITAL
• Renbrook School has implemented a Work-Related Injury Medical Care Plan that enhances the worker's
compensation benefit package in the event of an injury or illness on the job. The 'Plan,' which has been
approved by the Connecticut Workers' Compensation Commission, requires Renbrook to channel
employees and volunteers through a designated network of medical providers for treatment of work-
related injuries and illnesses. This Plan is designed to help ensure you receive appropriate, timely, and
quality medical care.
• If any employee (or volunteer) sustains an injury while carrying out school or camp responsibilities, the
incident should be reported to the school or camp nurse who will notify the Business Office. If any
medical expenses are incurred under these circumstances, they will be paid for under the terms of the
Renbrook School Worker's Compensation Insurance, underwritten by The Hartford.
• This is a "managed care" type of insurance program approved by the State of Connecticut that has
very specific guidelines and protocols to follow in order for bills to be paid.
• Except in extreme emergency situations, an injured person must be seen first by a physician at:
