10 statues of Senusert I

Senusert I: He ruled 10 years as a coregent with his father          (

Amenemhat I). His father was killed when he was in his campaign against the

Libyans, and when he received this bad news, he returned to Egypt to save his

throne. He was a real fighter as he engaged in battles against the Libyans and

the Bedwines in Sinai. Senusert I and his father moved the capital from Thebes

to El lisht where they built their pyramids.

The discovery: These statues were discovered at his mortuary temple

The material: They made out of limestone

The description: They are identical except for a few minor differences. They are
more than the life size statues. He is represented with all sign of royalty, as he
is shown with the nemes headdress, the cobra attached to the forehead, the
shendet. He holds in one hand a handkerchief while the other hand is stretched
on his lap. He appears with a delicate smile on his face showing the realistic art.
Some of the statues have a stripped headdress and plain beard while the other
has a wavy beard and plain headdress.

He is represented in a setting attitude in a low backed throne decorated in

some statues by a representation of Horus and Seth while wrapping the

unification sign, while in the other statues; it is decorated with the shape of
