Sphinx of Amenemhat III

Amenmhat III was one of kings of 12th dynasty, he was son of king senwsert iii.
He ruled for 48 years, the irrigation and agricultural projects reached its peak
during his reign. He built 2 pyramids; one at Dahshur and the other at Hawara.
He built there his great temple called by Herodutes '' the labyrnith''

The material: It is made out of grey granite

The discovery: it was found at Tanis.

The description: The sphinx combined between the physical power in the form
of the body of the lion and the mental power in the form of the head of the
king.

The sphinx : The word sphinx is a Greek word was derived from ancient
Egyptian word '' Ssp anx" which means the living image, while the Arabs called
it '' Abu El Hawel'' which was derived from the word " bw Hwl" which means
the place of god Hwl .

There are four sphinx statues belong to Amenemhat III. The king in these
statues was represented as a youthful powerful lion with the human head
bearing the facial features of king Amenemhat III, as he appears with the
protruding eyes, heavy lids, the wrinkles around the eyes, high relief eyebrow,
