Comparative Adjectives
Comparative adjectives are used to make comparisons or show change.
e.g. - This plant certainly looks healthier.
- I’m feeling happier now.
- We need a bigger garden to plant all these seeds.
The word than is used when comparing one thing with another.
e.g. - She is two years older than me.
- New York is much bigger than Boston.
- Yin Wei is taller than Lim by a few centimetres.
Two comparative adjectives with and can be used to describe how something or
someone changes.
e.g. - The balloon got bigger and bigger.
- This girl is getting heavier and heavier.
- Grandfather is looking older and older.
Article the is always used with comparative adjectives to show that one thing
depends on another.
e.g.
- The higher they climbed, the colder it got.
- The higher marks you get on the test, the greater chance of getting the award.
- The older he gets, the slower he walks.
