Comparison of Adverbs
Adverbs have three degrees of comparison. The first
sentence uses the adverb of the positive degree. The
second degree uses the adverb of comparative adverb
while the third degree uses the superlative degree.
The adverbs form their comparatives and superlatives
using –er and –est , and more and most. Adverbs that
end in –ly use the words more and most to form their
comparatives and superlatives.
Positive Comparative Superlative
angrily more angrily than most angrily
brightly more brightly than most brightly
heavily more heavily than most heavily
freely more freely than most freely
gladly more gladly than most gladly
loudly more loudly than most loudly
sweetly more sweetly than most sweetly
