SIMPLE PAST &
CONTINUOUS
The past continuous tense is used for:
action that was still ongoing at a given
period/point of time in the past
Examples:
Teefa was reading a book for the whole afternoon.
My sisters were sewing for two hours.
action that was ongoing in the past when
another past activity happened
Examples:
My dad was jogging when he saw the accident.
The children were sleeping when we arrived.
two or more actions progressing at the
same time in the past
Examples:
LThe cat was eating while the kittens were playing.
The girls were singing while the boys were clapping.
Common Errors
Helen speaked to me just now. Helen spoke to me just now.
Mother cooked the Mother was cooking
whole of yesterday. the whole day yesterday.
