For the Scholar’s September workshop, we
welcomed portrait painter David Cobley to the
department who led a painting workshop for the
scholars from Years 11, 12 and 13. He introduced
the scholars to the idea of conveying character
and personality through their painting. Pupils
attempted portraits of famous people and each
other using pencil and then went on to paint
each other’s portraits using acrylic.

In November we welcomed the return of
portrait painter David Cobley to run a workshop
for a range of pupils including the year 9 and
10 Art Scholars. Again, students looked at the
basics of portrait drawing and painting and
worked towards producing a final portrait of
another member of the group. Students built
their confidence in this area and produced some
excellent final pieces.
