As a Golf Professional we must be like a Swiss Army knife, in that we must be ready and able
to handle any task that is asked of us. There are constantly new tasks, requests, and
accommodations that we must fulfill for our membership and fellow co-workers as a part of
our job every day; often times, being asked to step out of our comfort zone in order to
accomplish them.
The experiences that I have had working at seven different golf clubs around the nation, have
more than prepared me for anything that is thrown my way on a daily basis.
Below you will find an example of the current job duties asked of all Assistant Golf
Professionals here at The Ridgewood Country Club, and numerous other examples of what
may go on in a day to day basis.
Ridgewood Country Club – Assistant Golf Professional Job Duties
1. Complete the requirements of the PGA Membership and maintain an active classification in the
PGA of America
2. Demonstrate loyalty and reliability to the Head Golf Professional and to Ridgewood Country
Club
3. Conduct oneself in a profession manner and maintain a professional image at all times
4. Provide golf instruction and clinics that is consistent with instructional methods and policies and
procedures
5. Assist in managing the operational budget, including golf revenues and expenses on a monthly
and annual basis
6. Assist in training and supervision of all golf staff including outside assistant, play coordinators,
shop personnel, bag room staff and range staff
7. Assist in managing all golf services and operations
8. Assist with the starting procedures and managing play
9. Assist in the billing for all cart usage and guest play
10. Assist in managing the bag room to the highest level of service
11. Enforce all rules and regulations governing golf course usage
12. Manage and administer all Ridgewood tournaments and outside outings
13. Assist in overseeing the operations of a well-managed practice facility
14. Manage, develop, and conduct a strong junior golf program
15. Assist members with golf club repair needs
16. Assist in managing the USGA handicap system
17. Manage and maintain a golf shop atmosphere that the membership is proud of
18. Assist in the purchasing, receiving, display, inventory, control, promotion, and sales of the Pro
Shop merchandise
