The following are relevant quotes from our Founding Fathers
and Framers. Because each of them appears at different times in
our Country’s history, they are presented by their year of birth. In
that historical era, communication was primarily by private letter or
published works – such as essays and editorials. Unlike today, from
which quips and quotes may come from televised speeches, only the
written word was available. We find quotes from our Founding
Fathers in letters to their families, friends and colleagues. These
quotes, from their private communications, are much more valuable
for the insight they provide. To understand the founding of this
nation, and those documents defining us, it is important to
understand the thought processes of these important persons to
this greatest Nation’s history, individually and collectively.
Our Founding Fathers were revolutionaries – not just in the
sense of revolting against England and the crown, recall that
independence was not the original intent. The original intent was
redress of grievances, and equality like their peers in England. As
their cause continued without impasse from England, their purpose
