Founding Father, Declaration of Independence, Vice President,
Second President
John Adams, cousin of revolutionary Samuel Adams, defender of
the English soldiers on trial for the Boston Massacre. These are
what he is less known for. Many do not know the direct
involvement he had being with Thomas Jefferson on the committee
drafting the Declaration of Independence, or that this would be the
last common ground the two would stand on, even when Jefferson
was Adam's Vice President. Adams was a Federalist to Jefferson's
Anti-Federalists; they died on the fiftieth anniversary of our
Country's independence that they fought and risked their lives for.
He was unwavering in the vote for independence by the Second
Continental Congress. He knew unanimity was imperative – equal –
to unity and he negotiated the debate to see it be unanimous. He
went on to become our first Vice President (1789-1797) and our
second President (1797-1801).
