        that he began to stoke the fire of independence among the colonies

        and colonists.  Henry was first commander of the Virginia armies,
        but left that post to concentrate on his love of statesmanship.  He

        would later write the constitution for Virginia, and become
        Virginia's first governor for three terms, from 1776 to 1779.
