gentry and therefore a voter. A person could not freely own land, it
was granted by the nobility, and could be someone else’s. Land was
the property of the kingdom, empire, etc. and could be taken to be
given to you, or taken from you to be given to another (refer to
eminent domain in our Constitution). With land came titles and
privileges. That is why property ownership is important to us, and
addressed later. Even in England’s government and parliament, and
still today, laws are enacted in the name of the crown. The House of
Lords is restricted to persons of inherited title, and the House of
Commons is the lesser body of elected commoners.
Freedom of Speech
The Freedom of Speech stems from a time when only nobility
and church leaders were literate. An ignorant servant is an obedient
servant. An ignorant servant is controlled. Slaves were not taught
to read or write, and I contend that illegal immigrants are enslaved
and kept that way because they remain ignorant (not intellectually,
but of society and assimilation) through the use of multi-language
services. Assimilation is the responsibility of the individual, no other
person or entity – from government to businesses. The inability to
communicate in English is not a disability and does not require
reasonable accommodations. As literacy evolved, and including by
the printing press, so did such works as the bible, scientific studies
and laws. Decades and centuries would see the evolvement of
communication through literacy – an informed person was not what
the ruling classes wanted. Being literate in our Country is
imperative, as servitude is not easy when literacy knows no bounds.
Literacy and communication – speech, be it orally or written – is one
