Beers with our Founding Fathers



        words belong to.  It is a simple sentence with a great deal of

        meaning.  That is how the Declaration of Independence is
        constructed.  The date, our celebration of independence, is also

        known from our earliest ages.  It is not the accurate date of the
        declaration; it is by default, as that was the date on the document at

        printing.  Before looking into the document, we need to see what
        transpired to bring the document itself to fruition and read to the

        people across the colonies.
            The Declaration of Independence continues with a third part,

        the right of citizens to alter their government when that
        government fails them and is destructive – no longer deriving its

        authority from the people.  The following powerful statement is
        intended for the crown, England, the world, colonies and colonists,

        “That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among
        men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.

        That whenever any form of government becomes destructive of
        these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it, and to

        institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles
        and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most

        likely to effect their safety and happiness.”  In a following paragraph,
        this is re-asserted with, “…it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off

        such government, and to provide new guards for their future
        security.”

            As noted in this work, the Declaration of Independence also

        details that the colonies and colonists, then subjects of the crown,
        were patient and attempted to petition their grievances for redress
        by parliament.  They were further oppressed and treated brutally.
