                   independence, and points were also integrated into the

                   Congressional debates and even the Declaration of Independence.
                   Common Sense resonated with the colonists.  It provided arguments

                   they could relate to in a language (i.e. not Latin) and could
                   understand.  Colonists were largely literate, proportionately more so

                   than their European counterparts.  Paine’s pamphlet was also read
                   at public gatherings, so that those unable to read it would hear it,

                   and grasp the necessity of making a decision to join other colonists
                   on the call and road for independence.
