EVIDENCE INSPECTION AND DOCUMENTATION – ALS AND PC MACROSCOPY
One of the most overlooked services a legal investigator can provide, as a fact finder or expert, is inspection and
documentation of the adverse party’s evidence. This is important in both criminal and civil litigation. We have provided
this service for nearly 15 years. Unfortunately, there is a misunderstanding as to this value to attorneys, legal strategy,
and litigation. Next month we will feature benefits to this process, as well as additional tools our agency uses to uniquely
examine and document evidence for our in-house review and analysis. Primarily for Criminal Defense, and applicable to
Civil litigation, this will walk the investigator through the steps of finding the evidence in discovery, initial examination,
photographic documentation, and special inspection and documentation considerations.
Look for this by the end of Summer - and send us your questions and experiences to share and expand on!

CASE STUDIES FROM AFI-LLC
Unusual Rural Gunshot Death - Homicide or Suicide?
The circumstances were unusual – alone in his truck, in a very remote area, and only a rifle found by the responding
deputy – in the backseat and muzzle towards the decedent in the driver’s seat. He had a gunshot wound in the left chest
– at an angle not consistent with the trajectory of the rifle. Ruled a Suicide. None of this made any sense to the family.
Individual Background / Assets & Liabilities Investigation - Over $500K Fraud Recovered!
The Court appointed the Public Administrator to protect the interests of an elderly gentleman suspected of being
victimized by a live-in caretaker. The caretaker had official documents of real property and water rights transfers (the
latter being very valuable in the Colorado agricultural county), as well as bank accounts and other assets. In addition, she
was identifying herself as his spouse. At a hearing, the subject was questioned under oath and several facts of our multi-
page report and over 50 pages of primary source documentation was presented.
