               1.3   The importance of culture

               Culture is that invisible bond, which ties the people of a community together. It refers
               to the pattern of human activity. An organisation's culture has a significant bearing on
               the way it relates to its stakeholders (especially customers and staff), the
               development of its strategy and its structure.

                             Advantages of having a strong culture

                             A strong culture will:


                                  facilitate good communication and co-ordination within the
                                   organisation


                                  provide a framework of social identity and a sense of belonging

                                  reduce differences amongst the members of the organisation

                                  strengthen the dominant values and attitudes

                                  regulate behaviour and norms among members of the
                                   organisation. minimise some of the perceptual differences among
                                   people within the organisation

                                  reflect the philosophy and values of the organisation’s founder or
                                   dominant group.
