Organisational culture
Disadvantages of having a strong culture
Strong cultures are difficult to change, beliefs which underpin
culture can be deep rooted.
Strong cultures may have a blinkered view which could affect the
organisation's ability or desire to learn new skills.
Strong cultures may stress inappropriate values. A strong culture
which is positive can enhance the performance of the
organisation, but a strong culture which is negative can have the
opposite effect.
Where two strong cultures come into contact e.g., in a merger,
then conflicts can arise.
A strong culture may not be attuned to the environment e.g., a
strong innovative culture is only appropriate in a dynamic, shifting
environment.
