Organisational culture

Disadvantages of having a strong culture

 Strong cultures are difficult to change, beliefs which underpin
                                   culture can be deep rooted.

 Strong cultures may have a blinkered view which could affect the
organisation's ability or desire to learn new skills.

 Strong cultures may stress inappropriate values. A strong culture
which is positive can enhance the performance of the
organisation, but a strong culture which is negative can have the
                                   opposite effect.

 Where two strong cultures come into contact e.g., in a merger,
                                   then conflicts can arise.

 A strong culture may not be attuned to the environment e.g., a
strong innovative culture is only appropriate in a dynamic, shifting
                                   environment.
