               6.4   The importance of control

               Throughout the executing stage of the project the project manager is responsible for
               monitoring and controlling its progress towards successful completion. The most
               important aspect of project control is ensuring that monitoring progress is carried out
               on a regular basis.

               What are the main purposes of a control system?

                    Prevention of deviations.


                    Correction of deviations.

                    Prevention of any future deviations, by revising plans, target, measures etc.

                    Implementation of recommendations from monitoring, reviewing and evaluating
                     the project.


               6.5   Performance and conformance management

               Performance measurement is required throughout the project in order to assess the
               progress of each aspect of the project. Measurement can include:

                    scope performance measures

                    functional quality

                    technical quality performance


                    client satisfaction measures.

               Conformance management systems focus on:

                    inspection

                    quality control

                    quality assurance


               Conformance quality depends upon compliance with technical specifications and
               relates to the use of superior operations management to reduce waste and costs,
               and increase uniformity.
