Chapter 12

If the trend is not constant then the average increase can be calculated

                   Example 5

The trend for a set of data is as follows:

                   Month Trend

                   Jan 100

                   Feb 102

                   March 106

                   April 111

                   May 114

                   June 118

What is the trend figure for September?

                   Average trend

= (last known trend – first known trend)/(number of sets of data – 1)

                   = (118 – 100) / (6-1) = 3.6

                   Trend for September = 118 + (3.6 × 3) = 128.8
