                  EXERCISE 1 (BUDGETING AND CONTROL)


                  UPDATE

                  The Board of VitaMine is keen to grow the business within Eastland, especially with respect to
                  increasing the proportion of products sold that have the VitaMine brand on them.

                  At  the  recent  Board  meeting  Melanie  Tan  (Sales  and  Marketing  Director)  explained  that,  each
                  year, there was an industry‐wide conference / expo for vitamins and other health supplements. In
                  previous  years  VitaMine  had  sent  some  members  of  its  domestic  sales  team  to  attend  but
                  Melanie  argued  that  VitaMine  was  missing  out  on  a  huge  opportunity  here  for  marketing  to
                  commercial clients.

                  Victor Zhang (Production Director) agreed and added  that he  had  heard  that  the  Eastland
                  Government were planning on sending a team of scientists to present on the latest health trends,
                  which supplements had scientific evidence to back up claims of efficacy and which did not. Given
                  this, delegates from most large retailers were likely to attend.
                  Suresh Patel (Managing Director) also agreed that this was too good an opportunity to miss and
                  added that he would arrange a meeting with the organisers to see if VitaMine could be one of the
                  sponsors of this year’s event.

                  As you may be  aware, Suresh  Patel  has  entered  into discussions  with the organisers  of the
                  Vitamins and Supplements Expo 2019 with a view to VitaMine sending more delegates and even
                  co‐sponsoring this annual exhibition and symposium. The official aims of the Expo are “bringing
                  together  manufacturers  and  retailers  with  consumers,  scientists  and  health  professionals
                  interested  in  the  trends,  innovations,  research,  and  policy  that  is  driving  the  vitamins  and
                  supplements industry today and into the future”.

                  As well as hosting our own exhibition area, sponsorship would result in the VitaMine logo being
                  used on all official marketing and expo literature and would give the opportunity for the company
                  to provide an expert to present a talk.
