Chapter 3
TRIGG ADVENTURE – SUMMARY AND
KEY TOPICS
1 INTRODUCTION
It is absolutely crucial that you completely familiarise yourself with the pre-seen information prior
to attempting the Case Study exam. Merely reading through the materials is unlikely to be
sufficient and it is also important that you consider which aspects of the three technical subjects
may be useful and relevant for the Case Study.
The exercises in the following three chapters will help you to gain a thorough understanding of
the Case Study scenario and ensure you are fully prepared to attempt the Practice Tasks later in
this Workbook.
Solutions to these exercises are provided but are not exhaustive. It is important that you attempt
the exercises yourself and makes notes of your answers before reviewing the solutions.
2 OVERVIEW OF PRE-SEEN
The pre-seen information concerns a company called Trigg Adventures that designs, manufactures
and installs children’s outdoor play equipment in the country of Fawland. Trigg offers high quality
play equipment to both domestic and commercial customers.
Domestic products
Within the domestic sector Trigg is the recognised market leader, selling its products through
specialist outdoor play stores, better toy shops and department stores and via its own website.
Unfortunately this market segment is mature with few growth prospects – recent growth has only
averaged 1.7% per annum.
Commercial products
Higher growth is anticipated within the commercial sector with historic growth figures averaging
7.4%. Despite the best efforts of the previous MD, Trigg has yet to establish itself as a major
player within this segment.
An article in the Fawland Business Today suggests that the key issue for commercial buyers is
safety after several well publicised accidents in 2015. However, we are also told that Trigg’s
products adhere to all commercial safety standards ranking them at the highest level of safety in
Fawland. Any deficiencies that customers perceive in Trigg must therefore be less about the
products themselves but more about related issues such as installation.
