Chapter 7




               Implied duties of the employer

                    To pay reasonable remuneration.

                    To indemnify employees for properly incurred expenses.

                    To take reasonable care for the safety of their employees e.g. safe plant and
                     machinery, safe system of work and reasonably competent fellow employees.

                    To give reasonable notice of termination of employment.

                    To maintain mutual co-operation, trust and confidence.


               Note that there is generally no duty to:

                    Provide work, unless payment is by commission or piece work, or the employee
                     relies on publicity or needs to maintain their skills

                    Provide references (but, if they do so, they must be truthful).
