6.2 A benefits dependency network (BDN)
1 Identify business drivers – the strategic reasons for carrying out the project
2 Establish investment objectives – makes the overall drivers more relevant to
the project
3 Identify business benefits – e.g. follow the BDN
4 Identify required business changes – these are the permanent changes
required in business methods
5 Associate further enabling changes – these are the one-off, often upfront
changes required to facilitate the enabling changes
BDN’s are created from 1 to 5 but
achieved from 5 to 1
